The client, working on a Department of Defense application, needed a miniaturized Right Hand Circularly Polarized (RHCP) antenna that could achieve centimeter-level GPS accuracy using GPS L1, L2, and Iridium signals. The device, intended to be worn on the wrist, had to meet extremely tight pattern requirements for GPS fixes while also incorporating an RF front-end capable of switching off the Low Noise Amplifiers (LNAs) during jamming attacks – all within a highly constrained size limit.
Field Theory designed an active antenna that fit into the compact dimensions of just 0.3X2.5 X0.7 inches, meeting all of the stringent requirements. The antenna delivered first GPS fixes in less than 20 seconds and consistently achieved centimeter-level accuracy. Additionally, the RF front-end was optimized to handle potential jamming threats by switching off the respective LNAs when needed. Field Theory completed the project ahead of schedule, further underscoring our ability to solve complex technical challenges under tight deadlines.
This project demonstrated Field Theory’s expertise in creating customized, cutting-edge solutions for highly specialized applications. Their ability to develop innovative RF designs within strict size and performance constraints sets us apart in the industry, especially when tackling the most difficult and demanding projects.
